How to Reach Sangli

By Road

Sangli lies on the Golden Quadrilateral National Highway NH4 with two exits at 40 km each from the city center.

  • NH4 Exit 1-Peth Naka: Take this exit when driving from Mumbai, Pune and North India.
  • NH4 Exit 2-Shiroli Naka: Take this exit when driving from Chennai, Bangalore, Hubli and South India.

Ratnagiri Nagpur National Highway NH 204 also passes through Sangli. You can take this highway if you are coming to Sangli from Eastern India, Kolkatta, Raipur, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Ratnagiri.

MSRTC runs intercity bus service from Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Solapur, Nasik, Aurangabad and other cities to Sangli. Karnataka, Goa and Andhra state transport corporations also run some services from Sangli to Belgaum, Hubli, Goa, Mangalore and Hyderabad.

Private AC and Non-AC Volvo buses also ply from Sangli to Pune, Mumbai, Solapur, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Indore, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Nasik, and other cities.

By Rail

Sangli has a railway network in all four directions from the city. There are two main railway stations in Sangli city and 29 sub-urban railway stations within 50 km from Sangli.

  • Miraj Junction: This station is 8 km from city center. More than 50 trains pass through Miraj junction connecting to Delhi, Agra, Bhopal, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Mysore, Nagpur, Hyderbad, Ahmedabad, Goa, Cochin, Surat, Vadodara, Tirupati and other major cities of India.
  • Sangli station: This station is 3 km from city center. Over 30 trains pass through this station connecting to Delhi, Agra, Bhopal, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Mysore, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Goa, Cochin, Surat, Vadodara and other major cities of India.

The four railway sections which connect to Miraj junction are:

  • Pune - Satara - Miraj section (Central Railway Pune Division)
  • Hubli - Belgaum - Miraj section(South Western Railway Hubli Division)
  • Latur - Kurduvadi - Miraj section(Central Railway Solapur Division)
  • Kolhapur - Miraj section(Central Railway Pune Division)

29 sub-urban railway stations connecting to Miraj junction are Vishrambag, Madhavnagar, Nandre, Bhilavadi, Amnapur, Kirloskarvadi, Takari, Bhavaninagar, Bolvad, Belanki, Arag, Bedag, Salgare, Dhalgaon, Kavathemahankal, Langarpeth, Jath Road, Vijayanagar, Shedbal, Ugar, Kudachi, Raybag, Ghataprabha, Gokak Road, Jaisingpur, Nimshirgaon, Hatkanangale, Rukadi, Valivade. Shuttle passenger train services are available to these stations from Miraj and Sangli stations.

Note: All express trains running on Pune-Miraj-Hubli route stop at both Miraj and Sangli stations except Delhi-Bangalore Karnataka Sampark Kranti express which stops only at Miraj junction.

By Air

Sangli is connected by road and rail to following international airports:

  • Pune Airport - 220 km
  • Mumbai Airport - 390 km
  • Bangalore Airport - 650 km

Upcoming Domestic Airport

Maharashtra government has sent a proposal to Airport Authority of India(AAI) to develop new greenfield airport at Kavathe Piran which is 8 km from Sangli city. The AAI team has completed the feasibility study and the airport is awaiting nod from Ministry of Civil Aviation. Once this airport comes into existence, Sangli will be directly connected by air to major cities of India.
